Commadores Corner - (As seen in the news letter)
Hey, Sailors!
14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9; 8 27, 26, 25, 24, 23,22, 21, As I write this
article, I’m consumed with countdowns. There are only 21 days to go
until Madcatter 34. It is hard to believe the winter is over and sailing
has officially begun! I want to officially invite all Fleet members and all
Hobie and new this year F18 sailors from around the hemisphere to
participate this year.
As is the situation with all Fleets, we all tend to do some things
differently at the regattas we each host. This year expect some new
and somewhat new “things” are Madcatter. If you want to get a DVD
of the event, we’re going to video tape the event again this year, only
with a little better production help than last year’s. If you have friends or relatives that
could be spectators, we have the boat for them on Sat. May 22. What if you are a big spender
and want to advertise, we’ve got a VIP boat that will take care of your every need.
Here is something new and really exciting, we’ll see the unveiling of the European Wild Cat
at Madcatter; so far 5 have signed up to take part in the regatta. There was one at this
year’s Boat Show in Syracuse, it was really something to behold. Also new this year,
Hobie Wave’s will be part of the fun as well. We’ll have a new party location, no leaving
the beach, and watch for some new ideas as part of the whole concept.
So, make sure if you are planning on attending to sign up early by pre-registering on the
homepage of our website. I’ve already put in for good weather and we’re expecting a
great group of sailor to all compete against!
One of our Fleet’s goals this year is to be more visible, let the public see our boats and
sport to increase membership. The Fleet will host a “Come Sail With Us Day” on Sat. May
29th at our marinas on Lake Shore Rd. All new sailors or wannabes are invited to
participate, it will be from 11am -3pm, weather permitting, watch for more info soon.
Another event we’ll participate in is Oneida Shores County Parks and Brewerton’s Canal
Days Festival. This will be held on Sat. June 5 and also be the rain date for the May 29th
event. Again, watch for more info soon on our website.
Ok, so now the season is here! Get your boats out, check them over and get on the water!
Oh, yes, you are probably wondering what the 14-8 is, well, that’s my countdown of all
those strawberry short cakes that I ate at Borio’s over the winter that I’ve got to lose by the
22nd of May!
See ya on the water and hopefully at Madcatter!
