June’s Commodores Corner

Just three things on my mind.

First, Madcatter 43 is in the books. It was another great experience for just about everyone there. Having 36 H16 As on the line is a very fun thing to be a part of. We had good weather (no rain, no snow), good food, and good times sailing and hanging with Hobie family. There was one event that dampened the weekend. One of our guests had an accidental tent fire. No one was hurt, and all considered, we came away very lucky. The key to remember for the future is that accidents may happen, but can usually be avoided. We were fortunate to have a fireman, doctor, nurse, and fleet safety officer close by. We had fast response from other fleet members. Their combined skills helped minimize the disaster. “Thank you!” to all who responded to the event. Safety is no accident. Think about it.

Second, we are into our Thursday fleet race nights. Two nights have been completed. The first night was good/big wind with 5 boats. Second night was light air with 10 boats on the start line. Both nights ended a bit early due to storms bearing down on South Bay. There was good sailing, in spite of the weather forecast. If you haven’t attended yet, plan on it for every Thursday. Your sailing skills will improve when you sail with other boats on a course.

Third, I would like to again officially congratulate Kevin W. on the Grand Opening of 43 North Marina, and Rob and Darcy J. on their Grand Opening of South Bay Sails and Kayak. Their opening on Saturday was a grand event. Music, food, and a mass of supporting clients, customers, and friends made the day. Plus, the best weather day of the year.
I must also say “thanks!” to all who showed up for Clean the Shore earlier last Saturday. Noticeable cleaning happened on both shores. We are fortunate to have some hard working, dedicated members to step up when there is a call for help. We will need volunteers for Newbie Tuesdays and Come Sail With Us on June 22
June’s fleet meeting is at 8:00 on June 11, at Borio’s. Plan on being there. We have more plans and events to discuss.See you there
